Ibrahim Kirawa, the head tennis coach of the Borno State Sports Council, has shared some details of his team’s trip to Lagos for the Azimuth Shipping Lines Junior Tennis Championship.

The Borno State players, comprising three males and one female, arrived Lagos on Sunday evening, having traveled for about two days, to attend the Azimuth championship for the very first time.

In a brief chat with Nigeria Tennis Live, Coach Kirawa, who was once a tennis player, coming to Lagos for junior tennis championship, noted that they had to come for this competition because they needed that competitive edge.

He noted that the last time he came to Lagos was when he came to participate in a junior tennis event being organized by late Mr. Chris Enahoro, but that the players are excited to be in Lagos for the junior event.

According to him, tennis development in Borno State is taking a new turn following the intervention of former House of Representatives member, Hon. Abdulrahaman Terab, who doubles as the Vice President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF).

“He’s the one who has been supporting tennis in Borno State, as well as our trip to Lagos for this tournament,” Coach Kirawa told our correspondent.

One of the players, Mubarak Adamu, who competed in the Boys U-12 category, was excited to have participated in the tournament, despite losing his first match.
