    Agunbiade Wins Inaugural JOE Tennis Tournament In Calabar

    Damilola Agunbiade demonstrated exceptional skill to emerge as the winner of the inaugural John Owan Enoh Foundation (JOE) Tennis Competition.

    The week-long event held inside the Calabar Tennis Club in Cross River State, witnessed some interesting pairings and eventual winners.

    Agunbiade who has been a regular in national junior tennis events defeated Covenant Con to win the first ever edition of the competition sponsored by Nigeria’s Sports Minister, John Owan Enoh, through his foundation.

    In the professional cadre, Charles Olom Odok beat Mfon Joseph Obot to emerge as the winner amidst loud cheers by the spectators inside the sports centre in the heart of Calabar.

    The Men’s Singles event was even more intense as Effa Ojing stretched Odey Igrinya to claim the top spot, while Manyo Ogar and Ahmed Umar partnered to defeat the pair of Ojong and Agunbaide in the doubles event.

    The Minister was excited and proud of the abundance of young talents on display during the JOE Tennis competition, as he emphasized the tournament’s role as a nurturing ground for raw potential, affirming its commitment to fostering budding athletes.

    “The tournament’s success in unearthing such incredible young talent is truly inspiring. We want to provide platforms like this to nurture and support these future stars.

    “The commitment and skill displayed by these athletes throughout the tournament have been commendable. Their dedication to their sport is an inspiration to us all,” Senator Enoh was quoted to have said.
