President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Engr. Dayo Akindoju, recently emerged as the CAT Zone II President unopposed.

He revealed that this new development which was hugely celebrated in the country will bring a lot to Nigerian tennis, especially in the area of influence.

“We shall be at the centre of decision taking at CAT on what gets to Nigeria. Influence!” Engr. Akindoju had told Nigeria Tennis Live after the announcement in Nairobi, Kenya.

Subsequently, a tennis player, Williams Ukari has penned an emotional letter to the NTF number one man, as he believes that his office can help wheelchair tennis players in the country.

Below is the letter he wrote and sent to Nigeria Tennis Live correspondent:

AN OPEN LETTER TO OUR HONOURABLE PRESIDENT TENNIS FEDERATION OF NIGERIA AND OUR CHAIRMAN MR LATEEF SHODIPO

Good day sir, (MR DAYO AKINDOJU)

Permit me to write this open letter to you concerning wheelchair tennis in Nigeria sir on behalf of Nigerian wheelchair tennis players I write to plead to you to use your good office to address the challenges wheelchair tennis is facing here in Nigeria.

Sir wheelchair tennis has been to two Paralympics ( Beijing 2008 and London 2012) so I don’t see any reason why it should be view as an optional sports in Nigeria so I am hereby pleading to you to use your good office and iron this issue for the development of wheelchair tennis in Nigeria and the world at large.

Sir we will be so glad if today under your guidance wheelchair tennis becomes a permanent sports in the National sports festival.

Sir another challenge we are facing is lack of tournaments for wheelchair tennis here in Nigeria sir please kindly use your good office to make sure top ranked wheelchair tennis players both male and female collect a longer European visa and go to Europe to go and play so many tournaments to gather more points and qualify for Paralympics next year in France.

If you see we have Williams Ukari, 132 in the world; Alex Adewale, 145 in the world; Wasiu Yusuf, 444 in the world; while in the ladies, we have Foluke Musibahu, 63 in the world; Kafayat Omisore, 75 in the world.

From now till next year if given the privilege to go for a tour we will secure our qualifications.
