    Azimuth Junior Tennis: Mohammed, Bassey Land In Semis

    Khadijat Mohammed from Abuja proved to be Nigeria’s toughest U-14 female player as she strolled into the semis of the ongoing Azimuth Shipping Lines Limited Junior Tennis Championship.

    The youngster defeated all her opponents in the round robin fixtures decided on the centre court of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos where the competition is presently gathering steam.

    Mohammed, the younger sister of Mohammed Mohamemd, will now battle Akwa Ibom’s Etoro Bassey for a spot in the finals of the competition, and be guaranteed education grant of either 50k or 100k which the organizers have promised to give the runners-up and winners respectively.

    In the boys’ 14 & Unders, Yahuza Bello, Ogumjiofor Onyekachi, Kushimo Quzeem and Edwards David seem to be flying high as they advanced to the quarterfinals after playing two rounds of matches.

    While all eyes will be on Yahuza, a Kebbi State player, Ogumjiofor is expected to battle older players for a place in the semis which will be tougher than winning in the 12 & Unders that he is used to playing, winning.

    The competition will be featuring the U-16 boys and girls on Thursday, in what spectators are saying will produce the toughest round of matches.

    “If you’ve missed out on previous days, please do well to come around on Thursday, because that’s where the real action will kick off.

    “Those 16 & Unders, will produce some beautiful tennis actions, and I’m sure anyone wouldn’t want to miss those. It’s going to be really explosive,” Mr. Osaji, one of the parents at the competition offered.

    Tennis lovers are encouraged to swarm the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club venue of the competition to enjoy top class junior tennis action.

    The Azimuth Shipping Lines Limited Junior Tennis Championship which kicked off on Tuesday, 11 January, will end on Saturday, 15 January, 2022.
