Players from Delta State and the Federal Capital are among those leading the pack of players gunning for gold medal at the National Youth Games in Ilorin.

They have both recorded a hundred percent in the matches their players have participated in already, and are beginning to look like favourites to win gold medal in the competition.

Saidu Sani from the FCT opened the tournament with a brilliant 4-1, 4-0 win over Kaduna’s Segun Odonofre while his compatriot Lucky Danjuma saw off Wisdom Effiong in a 4-0, 4-0 game as well.

He passed the baton to Delta State’s Abubakary Yusuf who defeated Victor Adai from Kogi State in two quick sets of 4-0, 4-0.

The standout match of the day whose scoreline doesn’t reflect the intrigue and intensity was the tie between Yahaya Sani-Inabo from Delta and Precious Ikeuba of Rivers State.

Yahaya won the match 4-1, 4-1, but people who watched will confirm that it was tension soaked from start to finish.
