The fairytale run of Oiza Yakubu, the young Nigerian tennis sensation, continued on Wednesday as she defeated Oluchi Ozurumba, the number eight seed at the Rainoil Open Tennis Championship. She won 6-7 (1), 6-1, 6-4.

The 13-year old youngster made sure she handed her much experienced opponent a convincing win when the pair took to the court in one of the second round matches at the second edition of the tournament holding at Ikoyi Club 1938.

Nigerian Tennis Live gathered that Oiza, who had earned her first senior national points by winning her first round match against another top player, defeated Ozurumba in what could be classified as a tough match for the number eight seed.

With this result, the young superstar will take on former national champion, Christine Agugbom, in the quarterfinal of the competition.

The legendary Agugbom who has won so many national tournaments and stayed as Nigeria’s number one female player for quite some time, will be sure to treat the match with all the seriousness that it requires as she would be trying to avoid an embarrassing defeat in the hands of the youngster.

In other matches, Sarah Adegoke, Nigeria’s current national champion, will play against Are Bunmi while Aanu Aiyegbusi, another top player, will take on Patience Onebamhoin while Ronke Akingbade, a former national champion, will tackle 2017 losing finalist, Samuel Blessing.

Nigerian Tennis Live will keep up with activities at the ongoing tournament and report to our esteemed followers as things unfold.
