Nigeria’s Henry Atseye has joined some of his compatriots in the Main Draws of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship which serves off on Monday, 9 October, 2017, Nigerian Tennis Live can authoritatively report.
According to our regular checks with the tournament, the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Open, defeated fellow Nigerian, Christian Paul in two straight sets of 6-1, 6-0, to move beyond the preliminary stages of the competition to the thick of the action.
The Abuja-based tennis star who sustained a terrible shoulder injury which prevented him from advancing beyond the quarter final stage of the ITF pro-circuit, will now fancy his chances of doing well in the Main Draw as he awaits his opponent when the draw is concluded late Sunday evening.

As at the time of filing this report, the match between two talented Nigerian players, Thomas Otu and Emmanuel Idoko, which was in its final set, was interrupted due to the rainfall on the Island, but whichever way the result goes, another Nigerian will join Atseye in the 25,000+H tournament in its 17th year.
Nigerian Tennis Live gathered also, that in the female qualifying series, Nigeria’s number one female star, Christine Agugbom, would play no part in the Women’s Singles as she lost her qualifying match in two straight sets of 6-4, 6-4 to Janina Geiss who is also waiting to face Aminat Quadri.
In similar vein, Anette Munozova from Sweden defeated Airhunmwunde Osariemen by 6-0, 6-1 to progress to the Main Draw.
Focus will be on the Nigerian youngsters; Oyinlomo Quadri, Christopher Bulus, Adetayo Adetunji as well other top players who got wild cards to compete in the first leg of the tournament, as Nigerians will be expecting a lot from them.
