After watching Nigerian tennis players square up against one another at the recently concluded NCC League, Nduka Odizor has hailed the sport’s growth in the country.

In a recent chat with our correspondent, the indisputable king of Nigerian tennis gave full marks to the players who made the tournament a huge success and also hailed the sponsors for deeming it fit to continue with the league.

Team Offikwu, winners of the 2nd edition of the NCC Tennis League.

“My initial thought at the start of this league was that it would take us about 3-5 years to get where we used to be but with the way things are, it will not be too long before we get back to that height.

“Developmentally, financially, Nigerians have to be patient – unfortunately, that is one thing which we totally lack,” he said.

Odizor also revealed his plans for tennis in the country, he said: “I want to build six indoor sports facilities across the six geopolitical zones in the country.

“Presently we have an academy in Abuja where we have players between the ages of 6 and 8. We hope to revive tennis in Nigeria and we believe we can do our very best with the little that we are putting in”
