The NCC Tennis League matches taking place this weekend (Saturday October 1 and Sunday October 2) at the Port Harcourt and the Onitsha Sports Clubs will feature four teams parading former and present national tennis champions.

Sylvester Emmanuel (left) and Sunday Maku will be in action this weekend at the NCC Tennis League.

This will meet one of the objectives of  the league which is to take top level tennis to cities which otherwise will not host such tennis tournaments.

In Port Harcourt, Team Kalotari led by former Nigeria No.1, Sunday Maku and current No. 4, Nonso Madueke will be hosting 2015 CBN Senior Tennis champion, Thomas Otu and national No. 8, Sunday Emmanuel who play for Team FCT.

The clash in Onitsha will be between Team Anambra which has reinforced with former Nigeria No. 1 Clifford Enosoregbe and Team Offikwu from Kaduna which is coming to the tie with Sylvester Emmanuel, Nigeria’s No. 2 player and defending champion of the Dala Hard Court; former national champion, Sunday Emmanuel as well as doubles specialist Albert Bikom.

Matches are scheduled to start at 10 am at the two venues on both days.

The ten teams participating in this year’s edition have been divided into two round robin groups – the White and Blue groups – with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semifinals.

The NCC Tennis League, the first of its kind in Africa, is offering N17 million in price money with the champion team taking home N7 million, runner-up N5 million, third place N3 million and fourth place N2 million.
