Yakubu Reaches Tunisia J60 Semis, Ogunsakin Falters In QF

Nigeria’s top ranked female junior tennis player, Ohunene Yakubu, was in great form at the J60 Tunisia event which ended last week.

Yakubu, winner of the J30 Abuja event a few months ago, reached the semifinals of the J60 competition which was filled with top players from Tunisia and other parts of the world.

The tournament’s number six seed was at her devastating best as she weathered the storm when she met her opponents, before losing to the eventual winner from Germany.

The younger of the talented Yakubu Sisters also participated in a J100 event in Algeria recently, where she lost in the first round and will be playing another J30 event in Tunisia this week.

Her counterpart at the ITF High Performance Centre in Tunisia, Seun Ogunsakin, was also in action last week, at the J60 event in Tunisia but he lost out to the tournament’s no. 1 seed.

Ogunsakin, who also played the first round of the J100 event in Algeria, was in fine form during the match but met a brick wall when he was up against the tournament’s top seed in the quarterfinal of the event.

The Nigerian teenager will now hope for a redemption when he plays the J30 event this week as the competition’s no. 3 seed.

Nigerians will be rooting for their youngsters who have been playing back-to-back tournaments in Tunisia for a few weeks now, starting with the African Junior Tennis Championship.
