Nigeria’s Oyinlomo Quadre, who has risen to become the number one female tennis player in the country, believes it is a honour for her to be called the topmost player.

In an exclusive chat with Nigeria Tennis Live, Quadre, who’s the top seed at the ongoing Rainoil Tennis Open Championship, noted that she feels honoured to have been named the country’s number one player even though many tennis legends are still playing.

She confirmed how she idolized most of them while growing up and how she still regards them as the country’s tennis legends in spite of her new status.

“With so many legends still playing tennis, I am honored to be number 1 but I still have a long way to go,” the eloquent Quadre began.

“Sincerely speaking, my goal was never to be number one in Nigeria but to win grand slams some day, but still being number 1 at home, at 16, is also very encouraging.

“I always looked up to Mrs. Omotayo Ibrahim, Christie Agbubom and my sister Aminat Quadre(although she’s not on the circuit anymore). Also Aunty Blessing Anuna.

“But after playing tournaments and all, I also began to look up to Blessing Samuel, she’s a legend in the sport and I was always proud to be Nigerian everytime she was called number 1 or captain, this isn’t only based on tennis but mainly on attitude,” the African number four junior tennis star, added.

The youngster believes that she has to keep working really hard to maintain the top position in the sport.

Bookmakers are already tapping her up to win all the national titles up for grabs in the country  without breaking a sweat.

All eyes will be on the youngster as the tournament peaks in the coming days with all Nigeria’s top tennis stars fighting for honors.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs with updates from the tournament and report to our followers scattered across the globe.
