Wimbledon: Oluwadare Upsets Top Seed As Stojsavljevic Stops Urhobo

Great Britain’s Hephzibah Oluwadare was stunning in her first round game against the no 12 seed at the Junior Wimbledon Grand Slam event.

Oluwadare, ranked 109 in the world played against Kaitlyn Rolls, the competition’s number 12 seed and world no. 14, in the first round of the event and showed how strong a player she is.

The 16-year-old player of Nigerian descent who got a wild card to play in the main draw of the Junior Grand Slam event was emphatic in the 6-1, 6-2 victory over her American opponent.

For a spot in the third round of the grass court event, Oluwadare will have to overcome Netherlands’s Rose Marie Nijkamp – ranked 32 in the world junior ITF ranking.

Akasha Urhobo, the other player of Nigerian descent participating at the Junior Grand Slam event in the United Kingdom, lost her opening match to Mika Stojsavljevic.

Urhobo, who was playing her first ever Junior Grand Slam event on grass, put up a fierce fight against her opponent but it was not enough to secure a win for the US-based athlete.

She eventually lost 3-6, 3-6 to the world number 29 ranked player in what was her baptism of fire on the grass court as far as the Junior Grand Slam events are concerned.
