Coach Henry Shedrack has stated that the organizers of the HST Tennis Inter-school tennis championship were overwhelmed by the number of participants.

The second edition of the annual competition was held inside the tennis section of the Italian International School, Lekki, with over 200 kids in attendance.

From about 19 schools, the students participated in activities like tennis, football and swimming, but majority of them were involved in the tennis event.

Boys and girls from different schools participated in the 8 & Under, 10 and 14 & Under categories, distinguishing themselves in each of the events.

Key Academy’s Moroti Sowemimo who looked like a star in the making, defeated Mukhtar Oyekan from Priory Preparatory School to win the Boys’ 8 & Under title while Celia Abdel from BJIS was the better player in the Girls’ 10 & Under final where she beat fellow BJIS counterpart, Olivia Okwuosa, to the title.

“We are truly grateful to everyone who attended this tournament this year, it was a huge improvement from what we had last year, and we believe that we will do even better when we come up with the next edition,” the excited Coach Shedrack told Nigeria Tennis Live.

Coach Benson Ishicheli, one of the organizers of the event, was also full of gratitude to the sponsors of the event and to everyone who participated.

According to the Davis Cup non-playing captain: “We were not really expecting the number of kids who came around for the tournament, but we are very grateful to them for their participation.

“And to our numerous sponsors, especially the people from Sankore the major sponsor of the tournament, we are indeed grateful for the support and for the push. Without them, it would have been almost impossible to host this tournament.

“We look forward to more partnerships and collaborations in the nearest future”.
