VEMP Open: Oparaoji Begins Title Defence As Adeleye Hooks Atseye
Uche Oparaoji will be starting his title defence at the VEMP Open National Tennis Championship with one of the early matches on Tuesday, 21 May, 2024.
The Davis Cup player who is currently Nigeria’s number three ranked player, will be coming up against Thomas Otu, a former Nigerian number one star, in one of the second matches scheduled for Tuesday.
David Ekpenyong, Nigeria’s current number one male tennis player, who lost to Oparaoji in the 2023 final, will come up against Lucky Danjuma while Daniel Adeleye will try to upset experienced Nigerian number two, Henry Atseye, in one of the interesting match ups tomorrow.

Another senior player in Nonso Madueke will take on Mohammed Musa while Ganiyu Mubarak will try to outplay Godsgift Timibra for a spot in the second round of the championship.
Number one female seed, Anu Aiyegbusi, will start off her campaign this year against Mariam Salami while 2023 Dala Hard Court winner, Khadijat Mohammed, will square up against Aina Goodnews, the Girls’ U-16 winner at the recent TPPA-UTR National tournament in Lagos.
Etoro Bassey of the GEUF Tennis Academy in Akwa-Ibom will star against the experienced Blessing Anuna in another interesting match up in the first round while Emmanuella Kwange , a finalist at the TPPA-UTR competition in Lagos, will test her might against Blessing Omotayo.
