Chukwudubem Amasiani has won the first leg of the ITF/CAT U-14 Circuit event presently taking place in Madagascar, Nigeria Tennis Live reports.

The Abuja-based teenage sensation has been one of the best U-14 players in Africa for a while now and keeps proving why he is a player to watch out for out of the continent.

The 13-year-old youngster, who is the top seed at the first leg of the championship, defeated Ilo Rasoarahona in two straight sets of 6-1, 6-1 before handing another Madagascan Avo Razafindrazaka a 6-2, 6-1 defeat to reach the final.

And in the finale, he swept off Kenya’s Anand Chandarana 6-1, 6-0 to emerge as the winner of the first leg of the two-legged event earlier today.

Duby as the youngster is affectionately called, also won the Doubles event at the competition in Madagascar to ensure a clean swoop of titles at the tournament.

The West African number one U-14 and eighth-ranked player in Africa will move further upwards on the ranking and near the top five players on the African U-14 log after this win.

Despite playing only five tournaments during the year under review, Amasiani has amassed a total of 1220 points and looks set to add to that tally from the two legs of the event currently taking place in Madagascar.

Recall that he was moved up to the U-16 category at the recently concluded Adewale Isa Foundation Junior Tennis Championship where he reached the quarterfinal of the tournament

He had to leave his quarterfinal match to travel to Madagascar for the ITF/CAT event where he has now been showing the stuff he is made of to the rest of Africa.

With all odds favouring him, there’s no telling how far the Nigerian tennis wonderkid will go in reaching the pinnacle of tennis across the globe.

Nigeria Tennis Live will continue keeping tabs on the performance and progress of the junior tennis player as he keeps building a high profile in the junior cadre of tennis.
