TPPA-UTR Nationals: 10 Lagos Players Secure Semis Berth As Ekiti, Others Trail
No fewer than ten players representing Lagos State at the ongoing TPPA-UTR National Junior Tennis Classics have qualified for the semifinals of the championship.
The semifinalists who were confirmed after most of the round robin matches of the week-long event had been decided are drawn from the Boys’ and Girls’ Youth, U-16, U-14 & U-12 categories.
Leading the charge for Lagos State’s quest for gold is Mofifunoluwa Atilola who dominated the girls’ U-12 category, she is confirmed for the semis alongside Tiffany Osho, another Lagos State player.
Adeiza Yakubu and Tertema Ahenjir, both from Lagos State, are also in the boys’ U-12 semifinals and are looking good for the trophy after their semifinal matches.

Lagos Country Club boy, Nathaniel Aluko, who has had a stellar performance all week, is leading in the boys’ U-14 category and he is joined by Yahaya Isa in the semifinals just as Ikorodu-based Olaniyan Adesewa and Adams Fareehah of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club reached the semis in the girls’ U-16.
Bright Emmanuel from the Apapa Tennis Club, is in the semis also after winning two of her matches in the girls’ youth category. She is joined by Ekiti State’s Success Ogunjobi and Jesutoyosi Adeusi as well as number one seed, Khadijat Mohammed from the FCT, in the semifinals.
In one of the most enthralling matches of the day, Seyi Ogunsakin of Ekiti State ensured he topped his boys’ U-14 group while Peter Festus, in the boys’ U-12 and Aina Goodnews in the girls’ U-16 completed the list of five Ekiti players who reached the semis in Lagos.
Asides Mohammed who already reached the semis, Abubakar Yusuf, the competition’s highest rated player and Yahaya Sani Inabo are the other players from Nigeria’s federal capital who made it to the semifinals of the competition.
Cross River has two representatives in the semis of the UTR event also, Toluwalase Agunbiade, playing in the girls’ U-16 category and her brother, Damilola Agunbaide, who competed in the boys’ U-14, ensured this, and will have their sights set on the finals of the event.

Precious Aliya from Bayelsa State is one of the shining lights from this tournament as he has won all his matches so far to place himself in a good place to reach the final.
The semifinal matches as well as the UTR ranking matches will be played on Friday, 12 April, inside the tennis section of the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, Lagos, where the first-of-its-kind tournament is taking place.
