Sylvester Emmanuel’s dreams of at least making it to the semis of the ongoing Tombim Abuja Open has been dashed after the top Nigerian star was bundled out by Alessandro Bega, the tournament’s number three seed.
The Nigerian player, who battled really hard during the encounter which lasted about 1hr 40mins, could not survive the firepower of his more experienced opponent, succumbing to a 4-6, 3-6 loss.
In spite of all his efforts, Sylvester could not make it past the first round of the Tombim Abuja Open |
Sylvester will now hope to consolidate on his doubles win on Monday to play any further part in the first leg of the ITF Futures which will come to an end on Sunday, May 7, inside the Package B of the National Stadium in Abuja.
Another Nigerian on the day, Emmanuel Emeruwa, was seriously overpowered by his opponent, Benjamin Lock from Zimbabwe, who won in two straight sets of 6-1, 6-1.
Emeruwa stood no chance against the tournament’s number seven seed and was conquered in just 40 minutes for which the contest lasted.
Focus will now be shifted to the second round of matches which will kick off by 10am on Wednesday, May 3, as the remaining Nigerians in the tournament will try to make something out of their matches.
