Tombim Abuja Open: Organizers Fix New Date For Wild Card Qualifying Matches As 9 Nigerians Register
The Nigerian players who have registered to play for a wild card to participate at the Tombim Abuja Open will have to wait until this weekend before they participate in the series.
This much was revealed to Nigeria Tennis Live by Barrister Ikani Agabi, the Director of the ITF World Tennis Tour event holding from 9-14 April in Abuja, during a phone conversation on Wednesday afternoon.
Agabi informed that an earlier date had been fixed for the qualifying but it was later discovered that it was a bit too early, hence the change in date.
According to him: “We’re hoping to start the Wild Card qualifying this weekend. We had planned to start on Monday before, but we discovered that it was too early, so we either start on Thursday or on Friday.”
Nigeria Tennis Live also gathered that a minimum of nine Nigerian players have registered to participate in the $25,000+H tournament which is attracting top 400 players in the world.
“Many Nigerian players have already registered to participate in the tournament. Currently, we have about nine of them who have indicated their interest in playing.
“So, we are ready for this weekend as the tournament proper kicks off next week,” Agabi informed.
The likes of Joseph Imeh, Sylvester Emmanuel, Emmanuel Idoko, among others, are expected to participate in the ITF tournament which Nigeria has been hosting for more then three consecutive years.
Nigeria Tennis Live will keep our followers posted with information from the tournament and the actions of Nigerians who participated in the tournament.
