Tombim Abuja Open: Nigeria’s Sylvester, Imeh Set To Clash Against Ukranians As Wild Card Mukhtar Faces Zimbabwean Top Seed

Nigeria’s number one male tennis player, Sylvester Emmanuel, will take on Oleg Khotkov from Ukraine in the first round of matches at the ongoing Tombim Abuja Open which kicked off on Monday at the tennis section of the National Stadium in Abuja.

Sylvester booked his place in the main draw after seeing off Ezeh Tochukwu in the final round of qualifying matches.

The defending Champion of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open will fancy his chances of advancing to the second round of the event against his opponent who is not one of the tournament’s top seeds.

Another match involving a local star is the encounter between Joseph Imeh, the highest placed Nigerian on the ITF ranking, and another Ukrainian player, Danylo Kalenichenko.

Nigeria Tennis Live had reported that Imeh strolled into the main draw after walking over a British player whom he was supposed to tackle for a place in the first round of the $25,000+H ITF World Tour.

Our correspondent will keep our followers up to date with the recent updates from the ITF tournament taking place in Nigeria’s Federal Capital.
