The Nigerian trio of Wilson Igbinovia, Usman Kushimo and Marylove Edwards have waltzed their ways into the semis of the ongoing J5 event in Lome, Togo.

Only one of the four Nigerians in the quarterfinal of the event, Emmanuel Jebutu, lost his match during the series of games played on Thursday.

Igbinovia, the boys’ number one seed, was in blistering form during his match against Kenneth Adjokatse, his opponent from Ghana.

The Nigerian youngster won 6-0, 6-4 and hopes to get into the tournament’s final on Friday.

Also, Usman Kushimo dazzled in his match against Louay Makke from Ivory Coast, as he smashed his opponent with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

Only one win stands between Kushimo and a final place berth, as well as a boost in the boys’ rankings.

Jebutu lost his match even though he fought so hard to stay in the tournament. He could not go through to the semis.

The Nigerian kid lost to 6-3, 6-7, 1-6 to Abubakari Yakubu-Lea from Ghana who revenge his compatriot’s defeat to Igbinovia.

In the girls’ event, Edwards kept her hopes of winning the Championship alive by crushing her opponent 6-2, 6-1 to move closer to the final.

Alicia Owegi from Kenya had no answers to the unending questions being asked by the talented Nigerian youngster.

Igbinovia will now have to beat Kushimo for a place in a finals while Edwards has Ivory Coast’s Bohoussou Blanche Lili-belle Minet to deal with to be guaranteed a second place finish.

The players seem charged and are raring to go as the tournament nears its final stages.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep monitoring activities from Lome, Togo, and report to our teeming audience scattered across the globe.
