Stavanger ITF: Nigeria’s Abayomi, Jebutu Gunning For Doubles Semis After Brave Q/Final Qualification
The Nigerian duo of Abayomi Philips and Emmanuel Jebutu are currently gunning for a place in the semis of the ongoing Stavanger Junior ITF event in Norway, after an impressive quarterfinal win in the doubles event.
Having both lost out in the singles event of the competition, the players progressed in the team event with an incredible win.
Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the Nigerian players came from a set down to force a tiebreak win against the Danish pair of Ervin Mesic and Felipe Mikkelsen.
The boys from Denmark had taken the first set 6-3, but the boys from Africa rallied in the second set to win 7-6(3) before winning the deciding tiebreak 10-6.
It was a huge relief for the guys who now face the British pair of Hugo Coquelin and Luca Pow for a semis slot.
The number two seed for the team event will be buoyed by their never say die spirit which helped them overcome a formidable opponent in the first round of the doubles.
Nigeria Tennis Live will continue monitoring the players’ adventure in Europe as they continue with their tennis development.
