Stavanger ITF: How Nigeria’s Abayomi, Jebutu, Asogba Suffer Crushing Defeats In Norway

The Nigerian players presently participating in the Stavanger Grade 5 Junior ITF Circuit event have reportedly suffered crushing defeats in the competition.

Abayomi Phillips, Emmanuel Jebutu and Toyin Asogba who are in Stavanger, Norway, could not go beyond the first round in their respective singles events, as they were defeated by their opponents.

Phillips, the tournament’s number two seed, lost in two straight sets of 2-6, 1-6 against Ervin Mesic from Denmark while Jebutu, the number eight seed, fell 1-6, 1-6 to Sweden’s Adrian Luddeckens in their encounter.

The only lady among the players, Asogba, could not withstand the firepower of New Caledonia’s Clara Cwajgenbaum, as she fell 4-6, 1-6 to the number five seed.

With these results, the Nigerian players are yet to win a single game once their tour of Europe began in 2019.

They will be hoping to get better when the second leg of the competition resumes next week, but are still in the first leg in the doubles event.

The Phillips and Jebutu are the number two seeds in the team event, and are up against Felipe Mikkelsen and Mesic of Denmark on Tuesday, 28 January.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep up with the players’ performance in Europe as they strive to continue their tennis development in the coming months.
