Savage Seeks N3m To Attend Para-Standing Tennis World Championship

Kayode Savage, Nigeria’s sole representative to the Para-standing tennis world championship, is seeking sponsorships to attend the tournament.

Savage became the first Nigerian ever listed to participate in a para-standing championship when organizers of the World Championship released the list of participants for this year’s competition.

And since the announcement, encomiums have poured in for the Lagos-based coach who specializes in identifying and nurturing talented players from really render ages.

“I really thought I could play wheelchair tennis before now, but ITF did not agree and I already gave up. But now, I can actually see people in my own state at the world level.

“This is an ITF-supported event. I thank God that this is happening,” Savage said after being accepted to participate in the competition.

He is now crying out for sponsorship as he told Nigeria Tennis Live that it will cost about three million naira (N3m) to attend the event scheduled to hold in Turin, Italy in a few months.

“I am particularly happy because, now, we can develop more talents in Nigeria. We have so many players who fall into this category of para-standing tennis but they don’t train tennis because they feel they cannot play tennis.

“This is now time to call out for sponsorship, the federation needs to come in, they need to know about it and help this dream come alive.

“For instance, the official hotel for the championship costs about 650k for just six nights, and it excludes feeding.

“In total, I’ll be needing about three million naira to be able to successfully participate in the competition. I really need all the financial help I can get now because this dream will further give birth to other dreams,” he explained.
