The Onitsha centre of the recently-concluded UTR Tournament has produced winners for the first time since the commencement of the competition in Nigeria.

Asides the competitive nature of the competition organized by the Tennis Players Parents Association (TPPA), the tournament brought alive the Onitsha Sports Club on Edgerton Road, as the witnessed non-stop tennis action like never before.

The youngsters, competing in the boys 12, 14, 16 and girls 14 categories, were made to sweat for their medals and earn their points, as well as their trip to Lagos for the Nationals holding in December.

Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that players from Imo State dominated the championship in the south east region with a total of 15 players while others came from Nnewi and the outskirts of Onitsha.

“Only two players participated from Onitsha,” Coach Tochukwu Ezeh, coordinator of the region, informed our correspondent.
