Oiza, Onoja, Suleiman Win Gold For Team Nigeria In First Phase Of AJC Qualifiers
Out of the four gold medals available to team Nigeria at the first phase of the ongoing African Junior Tennis Championship (AJC) qualifier in Togo, the team has won two gold and two silver medals.
Reports reaching Nigeria Tennis Live from Lome, Togo, have it that the final matches against Togolese counterparts were quite tasking but the Nigerian team scaled through, especially the Girls U-14 Doubles final.
Having lasted four hours and 20 minutes on the court, Nigeria’s Marylove Edwards succumbed to Togo’s Vania Dotse in what was tagged the match of the tournament.
This resulted would later motivate the U-14 Girl as they braced up for another tough challenge against the Togolese. They dispatched the Togolese girls in two straight sets of 6-4, 6-1 to emerge as the winners.
The U-14 boys also experienced mixed fortunes as Ibrahim Suleiman had to be at his very best to defeat Ndonfac from Cameroon, winning 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the final set.
But they were not so lucky against their Togolese opponents in their Doubles final match as the duo of Suleiman and Mubarak lost in the final set to the pair of Padio and Dogbefu. THe match ended 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
Team Nigeria kick start the team competition today inside the Stade D’Omnisport in Lome, Togo, as they seek more glory.
