Ogunshakin To Star As Improved Chevron Junior Tennis Tournament Holds In Lagos

Seun Ogunshakin will be among the youngsters to watch out for when the Chevron Junior Tennis Championship kicks off in Lagos next week, Nigeria Tennis Live can report.

The youngster who shone like a star at the recently-held African Junior Tennis Championship (AJC) qualifiers in Cotonou, Benin Republic, has been identified as one of Nigeria’s youngsters to take over from the ageing ones, especially with his scintillating performance in recent weeks.

And when Godwin Kienka, Director International Tennis Academy (ITA) spoke with our correspondent about the tournament, he revealed that Ogunshakin, who has won most of the junior tournaments in his age category, is sure to meet his ‘familiar foes’ when hostility resumes.

The Chevron Junior Tournament, Nigeria Tennis Live gathered, will hold from 26 to 31 March in Lagos, and it will be quite different from the previous editions which was held before.

Kienka revealed that the tournament will for the first time ever, “include the 12 & Under because we need to bridge the gap.

“Gradually, we can have other age categories join the tournament, but the idea is to groom younger talents and not just focus on U-16s who are closer to the mature ones than the beginners.

“After this edition, we’re likely to introduce other age categories too… that way, we can work properly on the gradual development of the players.”

As at the time of filing this report, Nigeria Tennis Live could not ascertain the venue of the tournament, but feelers are that it is likely to hold at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.
