Ogunsakin Soars, Nears Top 200 In New ITF Junior Rankings

Nigeria’s Seun Ogunsakin is edging closer to ranking in the top 200 of world junior tennis rankings according to the newly-released rankings.

The Tunisia-based Nigerian tennis teenager is currently in South Africa where he is playing Junior ITF competitions after being selected by the Grand Slam Player Development Program (GSPDP), CAT and the International Tennis Federation to play three Junior ITF events in South Africa.

Ogunsakin is currently Nigeria’s highest ranked player on the Junior ITF Rankings, and he consolidated that position with his recent performance at the J100 Pretoria event in South Africa where he reached the semifinals.

The recently-released rankings by the ITF showed that the Ekiti-born tennis youngster is now ranked 321 in the world and sits as the number 15 highest-ranked player in Africa.

The 15-year-old is in the Main Draw of the J200 Durban event in South Africa where he will be playing against South Africa’s Boitshepo Maake in the first round.

The Nigerian tennis sensation is making his first ever J200 appearance and will hope to consolidate on his previous performances to further push for a place among the best junior players in the world and possibly get a Grand Slam slot in the coming years.

It is worthy to note that Ogunsakin is the youngest player in the top 20 African players on the Junior ITF Rankings, and is among those to have played fewest number of competitions.
