Ogunsakin Moves In Latest Ranking But Adeleye Stands Strong

Seun Ogunsakin moved nine places in the latest junior ITF ranking but it is Daniel Adeleye that remains Nigeria’s number one junior in the world.

Ogunsakin was denied his sixth title of the 2024 tennis season after being stopped by France’s Mickael Kaouk in the J60 Hammam Sousse event in Tunisia.

The former African number one U-14 player was in a good shape last week as he played some beautiful tennis enroute on his way to reaching the finale of the event.

He, however, lost to a spirited Kaouk in the J60 final to surrender a good run of wins in Tunisia, a development which means he does not reclaim his spot as Nigeria’s number one junior in the world rankings.

Despite the result, Ogunsakin still moved nine spots to rank 277th in the world while Adeleye added three more moves to his current ranking to now sit 262nd in the world.

Of the other Nigerian boys that make up the top 10, it was only Lucky Danjuma (moved two places to sit 873rd) and Oluwatobi Agboola (two spots movement to rank 1748th) that had points change.

In the girls, Khadijat Mohammed (953), Blessing Otu (1659) and Toluwase Agunbiade (1752) were the only people who had additional points.

In spite of the points, though, their positions did not change on the top ten Nigerian female juniors in the world junior rankings.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep torching the light on the Nigerian players who still hope to finish the year in top positions as the 2024 tennis season winds down.
