Official: Igbinovia Reaches Highest Ranking Ever, Now Top 300
Wilson Igbinovia has officially shot into the top 300 players in world junior tennis after his recent performances on the junior ITF tour.
The Lagos-based youngster won two (J5 & J4) of three legs of junior ITF tennis events in Togo and Benin Republic, and was only a losing finalist at the only leg he didn’t win.
His performances have drawn praise from different sections of the tennis fraternity, and he keeps getting better as the year continues.
With the recent rankings of players released on Monday, 1 November, Igbinovia has now shot into the top 300 junior tennis stars of the world. He now ranks 261 in world junior tennis.
The closest Nigerian player to the youngster is Emmanuel Jebutu, who is almost 300 places below his compatriot. He’s now ranked 547 in the world.
David Dawariye, one of the Nigerians who were in company of the tough Igbinovia, also moved over 50 places upwards on the ranking and is now nearing the top 1000 in the world.
According to the ranking list by ITF, Dawariye is now 1007, as he keeps pushing and fighting hard to get among the best players in the world.
For Igbinovia, this is his highest ever ranking apot, while Jebutu is still a bit far from his 505 spot he started the year with.
With the year coming to an end in a few months, and tournaments getting fewer, the Nigerian youngsters willl be hoping to end the year on a high and start the new tennis season with a better ranking spot.
