The Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) is putting finishing touches on a proposed training for coaches within the federation, Nigerian Tennis Live can authoritatively report.
Information made available to our correspondent by the President of the federation, Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju, has it that the coaches will be drilled both in the practical and theoretical aspect of how to handle their players better by some Spanish coaches on Friday, 20 and Saturday, 21 October, 2017.
He stated that the Nigerian coaches will first take some classes in the classroom on Friday and get on the courts on the next day, to practicalise what they have been taught.

“The focus is to train these coaches and make them better for the federation.
“The three core areas that we are looking at include; methodology of identifying talents, how to train children, and how to handle players that are already doing well. These are the things which the Spanish trainers will drill our coaches on.
“We are looking at coaches that will help the federation train players regardless of the background and no those .
“Plans are presently being finalized on how to get the coaches involved and how to go about the training which will hold to wrap up the successful hosting of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship,” Engr. Akindoju offered.
He also gave a hint about the possible hosting of another training holding in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital later in the year, stating that it would be an intensive coaching seminar for all coaches in the country.
“They will be certified with a Diploma and there we shall be able to discuss with them on their challenges and know what the problems are with them and how to improve their working conditions.
“The stage where we are for that is that we are getting resource persons for the event. We are looking at getting the ITF involved as well, but there is no approval just yet, so we cannot plan on that on bank on their attendance,” he added.
