Nigerian tennis players will have their hands full with tournaments as the year folds up, Naija Tennis Special can confirm.
According to the organisers of the Dala Hard Court tournament and a newly-introduced Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA- sponsored Championship, the events would hold in the coming weeks.
Aarinola Isa, one of the national umpires told our correspondent that the NPA National tournament will hold in Abuja immediately after the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship.
She informed that the tournament will hold from Sunday, 23 November- Saturday, 29 November inside the Package B arena of the National Stadium in Abuja.
“The date for the tournament has been confirmed on our itinerary of activities for the rest of the year and I can assure you of the date.
“It will commence on Sunday, 23 December to culminate on Saturday, 30 December. It is a good development for our tennis, indeed and we hope that our players will get better for it,” she stated.
Our correspondent also gathered from the Secretary of the Kano State Tennis Association, Alhaji Datti, that the Dala Hard Court Tourney will hold from Thursday, 4 December- Saturday, 13 December.
He noted that, “the arrival date is Thursday, 4 December, while the qualifiers for the preliminary stage will commence on Friday, 5 December.”
Players who will be participating at the Governor’s Cup will be moving from Lagos to Abuja and then to Kano, in a new twist of fate for Nigerian tennis players.
