Legendary Nigerian tennis superstar, Abdulmumin Babalola, will be carrying out his first assignment as a coach when he leads Nigeria’s U-12 Team to Morocco for the African Junior Tennis Championship, Nigeria Tennis Live can report.

This piece of information was made available to our correspondent by Engr. Dayo Akindoju, the president of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) via a phone discussion on Thursday, 28 February, 2019.

    • Babalola remains one of the finest players to ever play tennis for Nigeria.

Akindoju revealed that Babalola, arguably Nigeria’s most experienced Davis Cup player, will be leading the youngsters in his first official assignment as a tennis coach, having led the Davis Cup team to Nairobi, Kenya for the 2018 qualifying series as the captain.

Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the tournament kicks off on 10 March, 2019 and the players have already commenced preparations for the event which Nigeria is expected to perform brilliantly well in.

“It was agreed that Babalola should take the players to Morocco for the 12 and Unders AJC tournament as their coach because we believe he has what it takes to lead them to glory.

“He is very experienced and we believe that with him in charge, the youngsters will have someone who has played tennis to a very high level, and has the needed support for their tasks,” the NTF President informed.

Nigeria Tennis Live will keep tabs with the players and their performance in Morocco when the competition kicks off.
