Nigerian Players Launch New Ranking Points As Ogunsakin Enters First Ever J300 Event

Seun Ogunsakin, Nigeria’s highest ranked junior tennis player on the Junior ITF rankings, has consolidated on his current status as one of Africa’s finest players.

The Nigerian youngster who is currently in South Africa for the J300 Durban event moved further up the pecking order in the world and is nearing top ten best junior players in Africa.

After winning his first ever J200 match last week, Ogunsakin picked enough points to further increase his ranking as he looks set to break into the top 200 players in the world.

He moved up seven more spots on the world rankings to now sit as 314 in the world, which also puts him in the top half of the top 20 African youngsters.

Like Ogunsakin, Franklin Jimoh who reached the final of the J30 Accra event last weekend, also found his way further upwards the rankings.

He leapt into the top four Nigerian players on the Junior ITF Rankings and at 693rd, is looking more likely than not to reach his highest ever ranking spot in the coming weeks.

Lucky Danjuma also did a great job in week one of the J30 Accra tournament, and his performance earned him a leap from his initial ranking spot.

Nigeria Tennis Live checks revealed that the Abuja-based tennis player is now 1761 in the world and looks set to keep up with the momentum as he progresses at the Ghana tournament.

Also, Khadijat Mohammed is now Nigeria’s second highest ranked female junior tennis player on the Junior ITF Rankings after leapfrogging Etoro Bassey on the log.

Mohammed is ranked 1016 while Bassey, who has also had a fantastic tournament, is now 1156 in the world and third on the log of Nigerian players on the ITF Rankings.

In the coming weeks, the players will be looking forward to improving their rankings as they are at the Junior ITF competition presently taking place in Accra, Ghana.
