Nigeria Tennis Makes Stunning Return To C’wealth Games After 8-Yr Absence

After an eight-year absence from the junior Commonwealth Games, Nigerian tennis will be staging an amazing return to the championship, Naija Tennis Special has authoritatively gathered.

This much was revealed to our correspondent by Ubale Mohammed, the national junior tennis coach, during a phone conversation on Thursday, June 8.

He spoke from the team’s Abuja base where they are presently camping for the tournament scheduled to hold in Bahamas from July 13, 2017.

The Nigerian contingent to a recent junior ITF tournament. They are poised to shine in Bahamas when the championship kicks off in July.

According to the respected coach, Nigeria last competed in the championship in 2009, playing to the quarter final stage of tournament hosted by India before missing out on the 2013 edition for ‘reasons he did not know’.

Coach Ubale told Naija Tennis Special that: “Christopher Bulus, Christopher Itodo, Angel McCleod, Omolayo Bamidele are presently at the team’s Abuja training camp while Adetunji Adetayo, Oyinlomo Barakat and Adetola Obasoto are likely to join from their respective bases abroad.

“We are presently not sure of the number of players expected to prosecute this championship, but we expect to get the final go ahead on the number of players to be taken to Bahamas by next week.

“We are to stay in camp for five weeks ahead of the championship, and within this period, I can guarantee that the players would have been put in proper shape for the tournament.”

With the recent performances of the players in the junior cadre, Nigerian tennis enthusiasts and teeming fans can expect an outstanding outing from the youngsters.
