Nigeria Set To Know Davis Cup Opponent As ITF Fixes Date For Draw

Nigeria will not have to wait for too long before knowing their opponents in the World Group II Playoffs for the Davis Cup event, Nigeria Tennis Live has gathered.

After an outstanding performance in Abuja, Nigeria, where the Africa Group III Qualifiers event was held a few months ago, Nigeria qualified for the World Group II Playoffs.

Zimbabwe and Namibia were the other countries who qualified alongside Nigeria out of six countries that participated in the week-long event in Abuja.

While Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire were relegated to Africa Group IV, only Benin Republic remained in Africa Group III after emerging fourth at the event.

Consequently, Nigeria rose on the Davis Cup ranking as released by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and are now among the top tennis nations from Africa.

Since the event which was held in July, 2024, Nigerians had been eagerly waiting for which country we’ll be playing against in the playoffs which is scheduled to hold in February, 2025, but no information was made available.

However, Nigeria Tennis Live has now gathered that the Draws for the World Group II Playoffs will be made sometime in October, barring any change of plan.

A source within the ITF who has access to information told our correspondent that even though there was no concrete date yet, unless there is a change of plan, it will hold in October.

He said: “We don’t know yet a concrete date yet, I’m afraid, but the draw date for the World Group II play-offs should be in October, subject to final confirmation”.
