New ITF Ranking: Nigeria’s Ogunsakin Now Rated 16th In Africa

Nigeria’s youngster, Seun Ogunsakin, has risen to the number 16 spot in Africa according to the newly-released junior ITF ranking, Nigeria Tennis Live reports.

Ogunsakin who has won five of the six finals he has reached in 2024, has been outstanding on the Junior ITF Circuit in the year under review, and has continue to rise in stock.

And according to the rankings released, he has closed the gap between him and Daniel Adeleye, Nigeria’s highest ranked player on the junior ITF circuit, and now sits pretty behind him.

Nigeria Tennis Live checks revealed that the Ekiti-born former African U-14 number one player is now ranked 334 in the world and his highest ever ranking on the junior tennis circuit.

Ogunsakin is also the biggest mover among the top 20 African players on the junior ITF ranking, and is just one spot behind Adeleye, his Nigerian compatriot rated 15th in Africa.

Adeleye who move one spot on the ranking, is now 333 in the world and will be looking to make the most of his last year in the junior cadre of tennis by going higher up the rankings.

Ohunene Yakubu, Nigeria’s top female junior player on the ITF ranking, is still the number one by a mile, and is followed in a distant second by Khadijat Mohammed.

Yakubu is rated 439th in the world and 19 on the African player’ list according to the ITF ranking, despite moving just one spot on the log.

The coming weeks will be significant for the youngster as she continues to prove to the world that she is surely one of the players to look out for.

Of all the Nigerian female players, Toluwalase Agunbiade had the most move, as she stepped up by three spots to now rank 1781 in the world.
