Youngster Nene Yakubu was one of the stars at the recently held Adeyemi-Bero Annual Tennis Championship which climaxed over the weekend.

The competition which is basically an U-14 event, was competed by some of the best in the age category around for about five days inside the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Nene was the winner in the female category, but Bright Emmanuel was the revelation of the tournament.

She made it to the semifinals of the competition, against all odds, and was rightly adjudged the most valuable female player of the competition for the first time.

Also, in the boys’ category, Chinedu Sunday was the most intriguing player, as he got into the competition’s semifinal, even though it was his first time of making it to the finals in his first appearance.

Isaac Silas was the only stumbling block between Chinedu and his first ever title, in his first ever competitive tournament, as the former won the U-14 championship in style.

The Adeyemi-Bero annual junior tennis tournament is targeted at discovering young tennis talents for Nigeria’s ailing racket game.
