Defending champions, Team Tombim are locked 2 – 2 with Team Offikwu at the end of first day Saturday, December 17 of the NCC Tennis league Cup finals taking place at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Race Course.

Team Offikwu are living up to their “comeback kids” reputation as they clawed their way to level after losing the first  two men’s singles to go 2 – 0 down.

National champion Moses Michael defeated Albert Bikom 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 and Christian Paul continued his dominance of Sylvester Emmanuel in  a hard fought match, beating the highest ranked Nigerian player on the ATP tour 7-6, 5-7, 6-3.

Oyinlomo Quadri started the comeback for the debutantes.

Team Offikwu fought back the same way they did in their upset win over Team Civil Defence in the semifinals. Oyin Quadri, one of Nigeria’s most promising junior talents, started the comeback bid for Team Offikwu with a comprehensive 6-3, 6-1 upset win over former National champion Sarah Adegoke.

The doubles pair of Emmanuel and Bicom then overcame Michael and Paul 7-6, 6-1 to even up the tie.

Sunday’s final matches (two men’s reverse singles and the mixed doubles) leading up to
the presentation is  scheduled to  start at 10. 30 am.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Former Vice President, Sir Alex Ekwueme GCON and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, are among several dignitaries expected at the grand finale.

Meanwhile, organisers have also promised a very spectator friendly event with lunch and refreshments for all spectators and gifts for the first 50 couples who attend the closing ceremonies.
