One of Nigeria’s top coaches, Kayode Savage, has heaped encomiums on the organisers of the NCC Tennis League, describing it as the best thing to happen to Nigerian tennis in recent times.
‘KK’ as the tennis enthusiast is fondly called, made this declaration during an exclusive chat with Nigerian Tennis Live in Lagos, noting that the league has helped a lot of Nigerian players get the required match fitness and has kept them really busy.
The NCC Tennis League which is coordinated by Mr. Godwin Kienka, is in its third year already, and has produced some of the best talents in the country.
Joseph Imeh and Mohammed Mohammed are two players whose partnership has been strengthened through the NCC Tennis League. |
And according to Savage: “we don’t even have to think seriously of the national tournaments when we know that we are making trips round the country to play top class tennis action.
“Before now, players would only wait for the CBN open at the early stage of the year and have nothing else to participate in until November when the Dala Hard Court championship serves off in Kano.
“But this league has helped the players a lot. The consistent competition at the highest level is there, the players see every other week and they it helps build the fighting spirit and doggedness which is required to excel in tennis.
“For me, the NCC League is the best thing to happen to Nigerian tennis in recent times, and I want the organisers to know that they are doing a great job for Nigerian tennis players.”
