National Youth Games: Ogunshakin Avoids Upset, Kwange Shines

Oluwaseun Ogunshakin, one of the players tipped to win gold at the ongoing National Youth Games in Ilorin, was at the verge of losing his second round tie today just as Elisha Kwange shone.

The competition holding inside the Sports Complex of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, witnessed one of the tournament’s most exciting matches when Ogunshakin, of Ekiti State, faced Lucky Danjuma of the FCT.

Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the match, a grudge tie, was an opportunity for the southpaw player to avenge his defeat at the hands of his northern opponent but it almost slipped through his hands.

Danjuma had defeated Ogunshakin in Kaduna a few months ago, and when the draws pitted them against each other, the CBN Junior Champ had no other thought on his mind other than a revenge.

He got his revenge, but not without a fight. Ogunshakin won 7-5, 5-7, 10-5 but it was Danjuma who was most likely to carry the day.

The match ended to a loud cheer by Ogunshakin’s friends and supporters. It was such a huge relief.

Also, Elisha Kwange (from Niger State) shone like millions when he squared against Ayomide Promise from Osun State.

Kwange, referred to as a ‘short man devil’ by some of his friends, lost five straight games before winning four on a bounce and emerged winner of the eventual super tie break.

The match ended 0-4, 4-1, 10-8 in favour of Kwange. It was a huge improvement from his previous encounters.
