Oyinlomo Quadre will have to be at her legendary best when she comes up against France’s Malleurie Noel in their second round tie at the ongoing Monastir ITF Tour in Tunisia.
Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the Nigerian youngster ranked 1020 on the WTA rankings made her mark in the first round by getting the better of Oana Gavrilla in two straight sets.
Quadre shocked the world’s 670 ranked player in the first set with a 6-2 triumph but had to fight for every point in the second leg before emerging winner. She won 7-5.
This win means that the Nigerian number one female tennis player will be in contention for a place in the quarterfinal against the number three seed from France.
In 2019, the 116 world junior was just a set away from becoming the first ever Nigerian female tennis player to play in the semis of an ITF Circuit event.
She won the first set against Ukraine’s Valeriya Strakhova 7-5, but was pegged back in the second set, 3-6 before finally capitulating 1-6 in the third set.
In spite of this loss, however, the youngster was hailed by the home fans, especially since the encounter was played at her club, the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.
She had become the first Nigerian female tennis player to zoom into the quarterfinals of an ITF Circuit event.
But without home support or ginger, the power playing youngster will hope to ignite her inner strength to make progress at the expense of the French top seed.
Nigeria Tennis Live will keep monitoring all the activities of the Nigerian superstar from Tunisia, and update our teeming readers with the latest updates.
