    Kikuxi Tennis Open: Adesuwa, Akpan, Canice Win Big In Angola

    The Nigerian trio of Adesuwa Osabuohien, Michael Emmanuel and Canice Abua are currently in Luanda, Angola for the Kikuxi Tennis Open event.

    The week-long event organized by the Angola Tennis Federation is featuring players from about 12 countries in both male and female categories.

    Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that four Nigerian players were invited to participate in the tournament but only three of them could make it to the event.

    The men and women’s teams are split into groups where players are made to play round robin matches to determine winners from each of the groups.

    While the male category consists of eight groups with three players each, the female category is made up of four groups with four players each comprising all participating countries and players.

    Information gathered by our correspondent showed that none of the three players representing Nigeria at the competition has lost a match at the tournament as they all started strong.

    Nigeria’s team captain to the Billie Jean King Cup event in Kenya, Osabuohien, made mince meats of her matches against Mirian Tuluca and Teresa Macaia, winning 6-0, 6-0 against both of them.

    Mekedes Adane Shumet, the only other player yet to taste defeat in the hands of Ade Mama and the duo will take to the court to determine who tops the group in the final group tie on Wednesday, 21 August, 2024.

    Meanwhile, Abua and Michael, in their respective matches, defeated their opponents in two straight sets. Akpan beat Juelson Paulino 6-2, 6-2 while Canice bageled Hedviges Tuluca 6-0, 6-0 in their first matches.

    The last fixtures in the groups will see Abua come up against William Emmanuel Bushamuka while Nigeria’s Davis Cup revelation, Akpan, will take on Ibrahim Kibet Yego in a bid to determine who tops the group.

    Nigeria Tennis Live will monitor the matches played by the Nigerian players as the Kikuxi Open tournament continues till Sunday, 25 August, 2024, when the finale will be played.
