JUST IN: Marylove Moves Up In New ITF Junior Rankings, As Quadre Maintains Status Quo

In the recent junior rankings released by the ITF on Monday, 9 December, Nigeria’s junior female tennis players have shown some level of improvements, especially talented Marylove Edwards.

Checks on the ITF website on Monday showed that Edwards moved five places upwards on the junior rankings, albeit still occupying her top 600 spot on the world stage. She is now ranked 593 in the world.

Edwards, who was one of the most outstanding players at the recently held Abuja junior ITF competition, is targeting a much better year in 2020 as she looks to move further upwards on the rankings.

She is billed to play Grade 4 Juniors in the early weeks of January in a series of tournaments that will seek to better her lot in her junior tennis development.

Unlike Edwards, however, Nigeria’s number one female tennis player, Oyinlomo Quadre, maintained status quo as the world’s 197 ranked junior player.

Having overcome the disappointment of not playing the Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl events in America, the 16-year-old shifted focus to the national competitions, and has won three national tournaments on a bounce.

Nigeria tennis pundits and followers are tipping both Quadre and Edwards to fly Nigeria’s flag high on the international stage and believe they can one day win a Grand Slam to cap their amazing tennis careers.

I want to use this opportunity to thank our president Mr David akindoju for his efforts to take Nigerian tennis to greater heights, but sir I have a question for you what tournament did wheelchair tennis have in Nigeria because CBN is a borrowed tournament it is the able body people that have it sir with due respect we need wheelchair tennis tournament like seven to eight every year here in Nigeria because wheelchair tennis is the only event that can take you to Grand alam, Paralympics so why not get sponsors for them rather you are discriminating pls do something about it sir.
