JUST IN! David Ekpenyong Defeats Daniel Adeleye, Wins 2024 VEMP Open Title
Nigeria’s number one male tennis player, David Ekpenyong, has won the Men’s Singles title at the 2024 VEMP Open National Tennis Championship.
The US-based tennis player played a classic tennis match against Daniel Adeleye, another impressive Nigerian tennis player, in what was an icing on the week-long tennis tournament in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital.
Ekpenyong had broken Daniel and held serve to take a comfortable 2-0 lead, but the J30 Accra winner got back into the game and won four straight games to take a 4-2 lead.
The 2023 CBN Open winner would return the favour, however, as he took four straight games to win the first set 6-4.

After the restart, Adeleye could not hold serve as he lost the first serve to his rampaging opponent who did enough to sustain the lead in the encounter.
And despite all efforts made by the former Ekiti-based player to get back into the game, it seemed inadequate as Ekpenyong coasted to a 4-1 lead, which appeared enough to see off the game but his opponent had other plans.
Adeleye, buoyed by a renewed energy, won four games at a stretch again – like he did in the first set – to take the game away from his unyielding opponent but could not finish it off and had to bring the game to a 5-5 draw.
He, however, maintained his resilience and dug deep to win the second set 7-5 in what looked like an insurmountable task when the second set started.
The ensuing final set was another game between two fighters but it was not for too long as Ekpenyong did everything right to take the final set 6-2.
