Junior ITF Circuit: Phillips, Jebutu, Marylove, Oiza, Others Battle For Honors In Abuja
Top junior tennis stars in Nigeria have begun their quest for glory as the much anticipated Junior ITF Circuit in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital territory, kicks off on Tuesday, 5 November, 2019.
Nigeria Tennis Live gathered that the competition which is dominated by Nigerians, is featuring an array of top local Nigerian players who will fancy their chances of ‘hosting to win’.
The likes of US-based Marylove Edwards, budding youngster, Abayomi Phillips, Emmanuel Jebutu, Oiza Yakubu, Gabriel Friday, and a host of others are participating in the tournament.
Marylove and Phillips are the top seeds for the girls and boys’ singles event respectively while a few non-Nigerian players are among those playing the competition which is taking place inside the tennis section of the National Stadium, Abuja.
According to the drawsheet, Serena Teluwo is also among the Nigerian players expected to battle for honors at the Abuja competition which will hold across two weeks.
Engr. Dayo Akindoju, the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), had expressed his desire to see Nigeria host the Junior ITF Circuit since he came on board.
In a recent interview with Nigeria Tennis Live, he expressed his excitement at finally having Nigeria host the tournament even though he believes that we can do more.
“This is a big leap for our tennis developmental plan. I believe it’s the stepping stone to even bigger opportunities as the years roll by,” he was quoted to have said.
