Junior ITF Circuit: After Crushing No. 3 Seed, In-form Marylove Guns For Semis Ticket
Talented tennis youngster, Marylove Edwards, has been a delight to watch at the ongoing Grade 4 Junior ITF Circuit in Lome, Togo, with her unprecedented upset.
The US-based former Nigerian number three player was responsible for the defeat of Gauri Bhagia, tournament’s number three seed in a final set game which ended in 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, and will be looking to continue with her fine form when she takes on America’s Hannah Smith for a place in the semis.
Placed 1436 in the world junior rankings, Marylove is one of Nigeria’s finest prospects in tennis and has been in a killer mood since the commencement of this week’s Grade 4 competition in Lome.
She is expected to grow up the ranks when the next ratings are released on Monday, 16 September by the world’s tennis governing body, but she is believed to be more focused on the ultimate prize.
Marylove who conquered the national juniors before sponsored by the Temple Management Company (TMC) to the Nick Bolleteri Tennis Academy in the United States, will seek to bounce back from her recent setbacks to stake a claim as one of the world’s best junior players.
