Junior CBN Open Serves Off In Lagos

The junior edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open is billed to serve off in Lagos on Monday, 7 March, 2022, Nigeria Tennis Live has gathered.

Mr. Godwin Kienka, Director of the International Tennis Academy (ITA), the organization responsible for the planning, told our correspondent that the competition, as is always the case, will feature the top junior players from different parts of the country.

The youngsters are expected to arrive, alongside their coaches, on Monday for the registration and proper screening before the tournament kicks off on Tuesday with the round robin stages.

For so many years, the Junior CBN Open has produced junior players who have gone on to become national champions and internationally recognized superstars while representing Nigeria.

The 2022 edition of the junior competition will feature the likes of national top juniors such as Mubarak Ganiyu, Seun Ogunshakin, Khadijat Mohammed, Malcolm Osaji, Murewa Egbeyemi, Vanessa Inyang, Ndidi Osaji, among other youngsters who have been shining on the national stage for a few years now.

Both Mubarak and Ogunshakin have been two of Nigeria’s brightest players for the past few years with the former being touted as the number one national junior starlet under the age of 16.

However, Ogunshakin came out tops in their last encounter in Lagos, and will hope to consolidate with a consecutive national title in Lagos after clinching the title at the Azimuth Shipping Lines Junior Tennis Championship.

Tennis enthusiasts and followers within Lagos will be treated to a high level of junior tennis action inside the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos Island, venue of the tournament.
