The match was entertaining, tough and nervy, but the Nigerian player came out tops after a fierce final set encounter. 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 it ended.
That was the tale after the match between Nigeria’s Oyinlomo Quadri and Yasmin Ezzat, the Egyptian number four seed at the ongoing ITF Junior U-18 Circuit in Lome, Togo. The Nigerian youngster ended a miserable loss against her Egyptian opponent in a dramatic fashion.
Oyinlomo Quadri ensured that she did not suffer back-to-back losses against the fiery Egyptian player. |
Nigerian Tennis Live reports that after her win against Ezzat in the Ghana leg of the ITF tournament, Oyinlomo became a target by some players who probably did not know how much of a player she is. And in the first leg in Togo, Ezzat made sure to get her pound of flesh against the Nigerian fighter, beating her in two straight sets. But she wouldn’t give up.
The loss probably presented the Nigerian youngster with the opportunity to access her game and see where she was getting it wrong, and as fate would have it, the pair met in the quarterfinal of the second leg again. And boom! Another opportunity to right the wrongs were presented before her.
The outcome of the match proved – beyond reasonable doubts – that the Nigerian was not going to allow any slips ups again; as she won with a really obvious fight.
With this result, there are just two matches standing between Oyinlomo and a second ITF Junior Circuit final within the space of three weeks. The icing on the cake would be to win it and improve her world ranking.
Nigerian Tennis Live will keep monitoring the progress of the player in the tournament and report her performance as the competition winds down.
