ITF Junior Tennis Masters: Oyinlomo Upsets No 1 Seed In Kenya

Nigeria’s teenage tennis sensation, Oyinlomo Quadri has defeated Makayla Loubser, the number one seed at the ongoing ITF/CAT 14 & Unders Masters in Kenya, Naija Tennis Special can authoritatively report.

Oyinlomo finds her swag at the very right time to compete at the ongoing Junior Masters.

The Lagos-born tennis prodigy who turned heads after winning U-18 championships in Cotonou, Benin Republic a few months ago, had lost her first match at the tournament to Sneha Kotecha of Kenya in two straight games of 6-2, 6-3, but bounced back in the second match.

Quadri, ranked number six in Africa, defeated Loubser in two straight sets of 6-3, 6-3 and will be hoping to cement her place in the semis by winning her last game in the round robin stage of the tournament on Friday, 10 November.

Michael Osewa was quite unlucky in his match as the number one player on the continent fought hard but lost 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to Eyes Marouani from Tunisia just as MaryLove Edwards, another female tennis sensation from Nigeria lost her second match in the round robin stage to be totally out of the tournament.

Coach Mohammed Ubale who led the players to the East African country in a chat with our correspondent, expressed total optimism in the players’ chances of qualifying for the next stage of the competition.

“With what I have seen of the players so far and the quality I know they possess, it is certain that they will make it to the semis of the tournament,” he noted.

The Nigerian contingent will return to the country on Monday, 14 November and they will be expected to come back home with the trophies involved.
