The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has confirmed that Nigeria will be hosting her first ever Masters Tour event in Abuja, the nation’s federal capital.
Nigeria Tennis Live had reported that the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) was working on a new tournament in the year 2024 tennis season.
The NTF President, Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju, had during the closing ceremony of the BNP Paribas World Team Cup event in Abuja early this year, also informed that the Masters tournament was being proposed for the new tennis season.
Our correspondent’s checks on the website of the ITF has now confirmed that the tournament will be holding in Nigeria, from 1-7 July, 2024.

As initially reported by this medium, the event was meant to be a two-week competition, but seeing the one-week date on the ITF website, Nigeria Tennis Live sought a clarification from the NTF Secretary, Makpa Aliyu.
He noted that there are chances that the tournament will be held across two weeks, as that was the proposal submitted to the world tennis governing body.
Nigerian players who are forty (40) years and above are encouraged to register for the competition which gives ITF rankings and is generally accepted across the globe.
